After my wife's hard drive died on her Macbook, I have been doing a lot of research methods for backing up your computer.  Backing up your computer is not an option-unless you have nothing worth saving.

Take a few simple steps that I outline on a website just for backing up your computer.

Get yourself a couple of external hard drives.  Buy some DVD R disks to back up your photos.

Save yourself the head ache of a crashed hard drive.   When you have a complete back up, the latest software makes it a cinch to get up and running again.

There are many opinions on what is the best method of backing up your computer. An external hard drive is a dead tie with free backup. The reason I chose online backup as number 1 is because some people get lazy and forget to connect their backup hard drive. I would rather have the backup in my possession than online because Internet connection may not be available. I f you really want to go with the fool proof method of backing up your hard drive, I would go with a solid state (SSD) because they don't wear out as fast. There is nothing that physically moves. No spinning disk. They are lightening fast. You can use a disk cloning software or simply drag your home folder into the external hard drive.

How To Choose The Best Family Camping Gear

Having the best family camping gear is going to make or break your next camping trip.  We don't break the bank when we go on our family camping trips.  Some of our equipment is everyday equipment that you can buy on the cheap at Craigslist, Walmart, Target, Amazon, and Target.

The photo that you see at your left is our exact storage set up that we used for years.  We now have a full size E150 Ford passenger van that set up almost the same way.  The full size van provides us with our new sleeping quarters.

Notice that we use a lot of the same equipment.  No need to spend thousands on camping equipment.

These are the storage bins that I love to use.  They work so well.  When we get home from camping, we take them out of our van and store them in our shed.

LED Bicycle Head Lights

I ride my bicycle to work every morning and it's usually dark.  Having an LED head light keeps me safe and illuminates my way.  I have a blinking red tail light and an adjustable beam heal light that has the strobe function.

With the price of LED flashlights coming down in price to all time lows, there is no reason to go without one on your bicycle.

Get A Macbook Pro & Say Goodbye To Viruses & Spyware

Are you tired of your computer that boots up slow and is constantly getting attacked by viruses and spyware?  Get a Macbook or iMac and say goodbye to most of pc problems-forever.

I switched to a Macbook 3 years ago and I will never go back to a pc.  Seems like we had to reformat the hard drive every year because it was either slowing down or infected by a virus.  No computer problems in over 3 years.

I still run a Dell XPS desk top and laptop, but  I  switched the OS over to Ubuntu which is based on Linux OS.

I wrote an article on Squidoo on the reason why switching to a Mac makes sense.

You can backup your computer online at places like Mozy and Carbonite.  Dropbox is a very simple solution where you can store your important documents and files.

REI Base Camp Tents

Family Camping Tents

My family loves to pack up at a moments notice and go on car camping trips.  We have everything stowed away in plastic bins ready to toss into our van and leave for mini-vacations.  Every summer, we go on a 3 week car camping trip and visit places like Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, Grand Canyon, etc.

The 4 Minute Workout

Less than a year ago, it heard about the Peak 8 workout while searching for workout tips at Mercola.com.  What I found literally blew my mind because it was the same workout type of workout that I did while playing high school sports.  All the peak 8 or sometimes called the sprint 8 is intervals.  We did interval training in cross-country, track, basketball, wrestling, and hockey.

Intervals hurt like hell and got us into shape fast.  We had a love hate relationship with this workout.  Take a look at the links below to learn more about the Peak 8.

  6. Elliptical Machines For Peak 8

Here is the equipment that I use for my interval training.

My favorite heart rate chronograph watch is the Timex Iron Man. It stays on my person almost 24-7.

When I do run my sprints in the grass, I either run barefoot or in Merrell Trail Gloves.  Barefoot is the way to go if you have an even surface without holes, debris, etc to hurt you.

A good heart rate monitor helps you run up to your target heart rate.  I have no problem getting my heart rate up when doing the Peak 8.
